The 2003 World Series of Poker is the biggest poker tournament in the world,
the tournament is held from the 15th of April until the 23rd of May. This
years World Series Poker is held at Binion's Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas.
The Tournament was started in the 70's and included seven of the world's
most noted poker players.
Anyone over the age of 21 is eligible to enter any of the tournament
events by posting the required buy in for the event.
The 2003 World Champion will win a first prize that is expected to be
$2 million or more. That's more than the winner of the Kentucky Derby
or the Wimbledon champ, or the man who captures the Masters. The World
Series of Poker is a true World Championship. Unlike baseball's World
Series, numbering players from very few countries, the World Series of
Poker attracts the best and brightest from even the most remote corners
of the globe.
Best of all, players don't need a big reputation or a winning team behind
them to participate. Anyone over 21 years of age can enter and compete
and, who knows, maybe even win. The element of luck, and the limited time
span of the tournament - it's not as though you're butting heads with
someone like Amarillo 'Slim' Preston on a slow boat to China - can make
contenders out of long shots.
Once again the World Series of Poker will be televised nationally and
shown internationally, with press coverage at a maximum. But the real
attraction, of course, will take place at the tables with their high stakes
action, their heart stopping drama.
